Al Green - Green Is Blues (1969) (Hi Records)

Green Is Blues is one of my favorite Al Green albums. As always Al Green is mad soulful. This album might feel a little more soulful because of the producer, Willie Mitchell. This was the first time the two worked together, and it definitely was not the last. They went on to make more classics than I can name, but this is where it all started. As a kid I stayed playing the Al Green Greatest Hits CD on repeat. Luckily I explored Al’s actual albums, and this was the first I heard. After hearing “One Woman,” (First track on Green Is Blues) I was blown away. Naturally the rest of the album just grew on me. Plus there are a few classic Hip-Hop samples hidden throughout this album (Wu). I suggest all the real music lovers go listen to this album, it’s a good one. You can hear one of my favorite Al Green songs called “One Woman” at the top of this post.
